"Originally produced as a motion picture in 1999. Adapted by John Berry from the 1969 play by Athol Fugard. Examines the devastating effects of racism on the human spirit through the progress of one couple's life together under apartheid. Their tumble down the social ladder has brought them to a makeshift shelter on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth on the mudflats referred as Swartkops. An old Xhosa man crosses their path, creating cracks in their relationship. Film is a study of the anxieties of human existence and also a powerful indictment of social justice.
