Siegfried Vermeulen (Ghitaar/Guitar), 11. Bettie Thomas (Percussion).

When Victor Lass started teaching at the Heilbron High School in 1954 he had already founded and conducted orchestras at various schools where he had taught. With the enthusiastic support, of the principal, Mr. J.C. Steenkamp, he founded this orchestra at the Heilbron High School in January 1954 and in March the same year his Riemland Orchestra, as it was then called, held its first concert in the City Hall of Heilbron. The orchestra won public acclaim and numerous concerts followed in the O.F.S., Northern and Western Transvaal. The orchestra contributed large amounts to the hospital funds of various towns and their own school funds.
In 1957 Victor Lass established a small choir to perform folk songs in his concerts. In 1958 he combined the choir and the orchestra and so The Riemland Light Orchestra and Chorus had its origin. Its main aim was the performance of Folk Music. Simultaneously the band leader founded the Riemland Boereorkes for the performance of traditional Boeremusiek.
The songs included in this recording represent folk music of ithe three main singing countries of Europe, i.e. Germany, Italy and Britain. A selection of South African traditional folk songs has been included. The first number, The Song of the Riemland, is the signature tune of the orchestra and was composed by the band leader himself, who was also responsible for the orchestration.
Of this recording Victor Lass declares: "It has often been said that the South African Youth has no love for or interest in song and music. With this recording we wish to prove the contrary - that our youth has great talent. It mostly is the opportunity to develop this talent that is lacking."

The Chorus: Clarice Nelson, Elizabeth Els, Margie Kleyn, Johanna de Beer, Anette de Beer, Hermi van Rooyen, Annemarie Scott, Maria Filmalter, Sarah Scheepers, Marié Bredenkamp, Ansie Cronje, Gideon de Beer, Vivian van Schalkwyk and René Bagchus.
