Dr. Zatopek van Heerden, a specialist on serial killers, joins the Cape Town investigative unit to hunt the Red Ribbon Killer. Van Heerden is struggling with inner demons, while trying to keep an open mind on the case. His partner, Captain Nagel, is an old-school policeman who is not convinced by Van Heerden's new-fangled methods.
To complicate matters and further raise tensions, Van Heerden falls in love with Nagel's wife and comes to believe she is the woman of his dreams. Just when Van Heerden thinks he can bear no more, Hoop Beneke arrives on the scene. He is a lawyer who has crossed Van Heerden's path before; together they become embroiled in a situation that pushes them to their physical and emotional limits. As Van Heerden's personal life slowly disintegrates, his quest to find the Red Ribbon Killer becomes increasingly personal, and leads to tragic consequences.
