"Forbidden love is haunting Onderplaas. Elize, the daughter of the bywoner (tenant farmer), has fallen in love with Francois, the son of the wealthy estate owner. They elope and marry but are forced by his parents to divorce. Unbeknown to Francois, however, Elize is pregnant with their daughter.
Twenty years later, a drought forces Elize and her daughter Lydia to rent land again on Onderplaas. Lydia befriends the owner, who is her father Francois, and his son, who is her half-brother. But the three know nothing about their shared genes.
