A newcomer to the South African music scene, Starla is set to make a substantial impression with her 12-track debut album, pronounced Nā ō păl.
This eclectic and interesting singer-songwriter was spotted by SONY BMG's Dave Thompson whilst she was still in her teens. Now in her early 20s, Starla's debut album delivers an agreeable fusion of hip-hop, rock and pop.
All of her material is original and the tracks on NAOPAL cover a range of subjects from Hindu Angels to Cowgirls to "Sweet like Candy" hypocrites and believe it or not, Superman and Lex Luther too. Stylistically NAOPAL runs the gamut from well-crafted pop to electro rock and hip hop.
The album's first single, "Maria", is a love song with well crafted pop hooks and poignant lyrics.
A trained dancer (she even belly dances), Starla is intent on taking the set of songs on NAOPAL to a wide audience through live shows.
