At a very early age Doris Brasch's voice was already winning excited attention. She matriculated at St. Dominics Academy, Newcastle, and soon after, in 1947, moved to Johannesburg. Her splendid talent was soon recognised, and today she is securely established as one of South Africa's most accomplished singers.
Even in a fleeting glance at her career, Miss Brasch's versatility is striking. She has performed in operas and oratoria and as a "lieder" singer, and her several appearances with the S.A,B.C. Orchestra have been exceptional personal successes. During the Johannesburg Festival in 1956, Miss Brasch was chosen to sing the soprano part in the first performance of Mahler's "Resurrection" with The London Symphony Orchestra under Jascha Horenstein. She has appeared as "Adele" in "The Fledermaus", in the title role in Menotti's "Amelia Goes to the Ball", and sang as accompaniment to Antonio's Spanish Ballet.vetseun
Recently Miss Brasch undertook two very successful tours to Durban and Cape Town. Music critics in both cities were extremely enthusiastic. In Durban she was acclaimed as a "musical sensation". The "Cape Argus" reported: " ...Miss Brasch was warmly applauded, and each item brought fresh proof that she had charm as wellas a fine voice".
The "Cape Times" of the same date describes the exciting impact of her voice: " ...in the final "Waltz Song" ...proving herself an ideal musical comedy heroine, she took her audience by storm".
Her talent, charm and success have made Miss Brasch a much sought-after artiste. Among her engagements, she has been invited to sing in operatic performances which will take place in Bloemfontein at the height of the Union Festival.
